ELECTRICAL 240V

These are the main components of your van that run on 240V – microwave, A/C, HWS, All powerpoints, fridge & management system.

Some questions:

  1. Is the microwave clock on?
  2. Does the fridge work on 240?
  3. Is the stand by light on the A/C?

If you’ve answered yes to the above, your 240v issue is isolated that specific powerpoint or item you are trying to use. It is not the whole van. Troubleshooting from there would be a little more involved. Please contact your nearest Jayco service centre or authorised repairer for advice. You can also contact us on 02 4028 0111.

If you’ve answered no to all of the above, we would then start with the 240v circuit breaker. Is the circuit breaker switched on? if it is off, switch it on. If it switches itself back off again, then there is an issue and troubleshooting would need to be carried out. For this, please see the troubleshooting item below.

If the 240v circuit breaker is switched on and there is no power in the van then remove 240v supply lead and plug in a known appliance that works into the inlet powerplug you were using to power the van and see if the appliance works (still do this even if power LED is present in the end of the plug).

If the appliance doesn’t work – go back to the power source you are drawing from and check the caravan park circuit breaker and/or unplug and use the next closest plug to test that.

Once you establish that you have power back at the lead, re-plug into van and test.

If you have power at the lead and the 240v circuit breaker is switch on and still no power present in the van, contact your nearest Jayco service center or authorised repairer for advice. You can find a list here.

  1. Switch off & unplug everything in your van that runs on 240V. This will include but is not limited to: microwave, A/C, HWS, All powerpoints, fridge & management system.
  2. Turn on the 240v circuit breaker. If it stays on – start plugging in and switching on individual items one at a time to find out which one is tripping the circuit breaker.
  3. Once you find out what is tripping the power, leave this item disconnected until the problem can be resolved. If you need advice on this, please call us on 02 4028 0111.

It is related to where you are drawing the power from (house or park) the way it has been wired – it’s not grounded properly so you are getting some earth leakage through the van. This is not a fault of the caravan. If at every 240v power source you go to you have the same result – the van needs to be looked at as generally it would be isolated to a specific caravan park site or residence.

Additionally, make sure to check your power lead. Sometimes, issues with the power lead itself can contribute to electrical shocks. Inspect the lead for any visible damage, frayed wires, or exposed conductors. Replace the power lead with a different one and see if the problem persists. Using a faulty power lead can exacerbate the risk of shocks and electrical issues. If the problem continues, it’s crucial to seek professional assistance to identify and rectify the underlying electrical problem in your caravan.
