Gelcoat is an epoxy polyurethane that is put over the top of fiberglass at the point of manufacturing, this helps preserve the fiberglass from UV and provides a high gloss finish. Gelcoat has micro peaks and valleys that can hold contaminants. Products such as Vantec fill these to level out the surface and allow contaminates and water to bead off the fiberglass to look after it long term.
